Firstly, thanks to all for readership of Southern Vermont Arts & Living. It is an endeavor of love everyday, and it is beyond a blessing to be able to make our livings swirling about the art world on various levels. The summer issue is now available at galleries, museums, bookstores, cafés, B&Bs, and other cultural institutions.
Highlights include "Lyman Orton: A Man of Action" by Joyce Marcel; "Design for the Bottom Line" by Anita Rafael; a full southern Vermont festival preview; and "Southern Vermont Musical Pioneer Turns 100," "Summer Inspiration," and "Defining Heart and Soul: David Brewster & the Art of Action," written by myself. This issue also sees the introduction of a new regular department: Vermont Food & Wine. In this installment we highlight the Fresh Tracks Farm winery and vineyard in Berlin, Grafton Village Cheese Company, and Chef Josh Tomson at The Hermittage Inn in West Dover.
From the meeting held last night for the fall issue, hitting streets Oct. 6, here are a few of the highlights:
1) Issue theme: The Psychology of Color
2) Will feature the Kennedy Center's 50-state tour promoting collaborative arts as economic aid.
3) I will be tackling four pieces: outsider art at Brattleboro Retreat, the Putney Craft Tour, "Autumn Inspiration," and a survey of harvest-time beers.
As always, if any of you artists, entrepreneurs, museum curators, publicists, editors and art-world denizens have coverage suggestions for the upcoming issue, or issues beyond that, please contact me as staff writer, event listings coordinator, and publicity coordinator (clara@inkblotcomplex.com / 802-275-7799) or Lynn Barrett as editor-in-chief and publisher (prime@svcable.net / 802-258-3992).
Please stay tuned to our newly launched Web site, vermontartsliving.com, as we update material and continue to engage and unify this pocket of New England through the arts!
